Solutions for the VoIP Problem

Many claim to have solved the VoIP problem for the alarm monitoring industry, however, IP Alarms are the only company to have done so without a requirement for the installation of new equipment at the alarm panel. When you take into consideration the cost of new equipment plus the travel and installation costs of a site visit, this is a remarkable breakthrough for the Security Industry.

Although the high cost of an equipment upgrade is the main cause of Customer attrition, it is not the only problem faced by Alarm Dealers. IP signaling presents a steep learning curve and it is both time consuming and costly to get alarm technicians up to speed on IP networking. Granted, there is much less of a learning curve associated with Cellular solutions but the cost implication of paying for a network utilized solely by the alarm system can often be restrictive. Any system upgrade is much more appealing to a Customer when you tell them they can use whatever POTS, VoIP or Cellular voice service they already have in place.

What is the problem that IP Alarms address?

Alarm Monitoring Companies know the following situations all too well: When a Telco switches part of their network to IP without informing alarm monitoring subscribers it generally results in communication failures. When a subscriber migrates to VoIP without informing their Alarm Company, it generally results in communication failures. These failures occur because the alarm panel and alarm receiver at the Central Station are attempting to communicate over a modern day network using equipment and methods that were developed in the 1970's.

So what are IP Alarms VoIP Solutions and how do they work?

IP Alarms have developed three solutions that differ slightly according to what alarm panel, VoIP equipment and network is available on site. The ability to adjust settings within the alarm panel and VoIP equipment will determine which solution is the most suitable for your requirements.

VoIP Optimize

The goal of our VoIP Otimize solution is to force VoIP equipment and networks to work in a way that is optimized for alarm monitoring instead of a voice conversation between two people. We can usually do this even if the VoIP equipment is locked and there is no user access to the internal settings. Depending on the VoIP service, it is sometimes only possible to use this service if you are able change the phone number dialed by the alarm panel.

VoIP Repair

If your alarm panel uses a DTMF alarm format and you are unable to get our VoIP Optimize solution to work, then you have the option of trying our VoIP Repair technology. It employs a custom algorithm to increase the reliability of DTMF detection. Codecs, echo, silence, latency and every other problem associated with alarm signals and VoIP become irrelevant when using our VoIP Repair technology.

VoIP Maximize

The use of high quality Cisco VoIP adapters and our custom VoIP Maximize firmware allows us to take full control over the network connection between an alarm panel and Monitoring Center. As a result, this is our most reliable and flexible VoIP technology as it supports all alarm panels and formats.
