Ademco Vista 21ip

The Honeywell Ademco Vista 21ip will without doubt be one of the most popular alarm panels of the coming decade. It has built-in Internet and an add-on GSM/GPRS feature.

The built-in IP communicator is a powerful feature of the Vista 21ip and provides a very reliable method of communicating through the Alarmnet-i platform and on to the Monitoring Center of your choice. When the communicator is used in this way it is still possible to take advantage of the video recording capabilities of the IP Alarms Virtual Monitoring Platform.

The Vista 21ip has a facility for the installer to enter 3 IP addresses. The first two are the addresses of the Alarmnet servers and cannot be changed. The third IP address is for logging and it is this feature that can be used to send logging information to the IP address of the Virtual Monitoring Platform.

The logging data that is sent out by the Vista 21ip can be received by the Virtual Monitoring servers and parsed to collect meaningful data. Although much of the information that is sent is of little or no use, through careful analysis, IP Alarms have been able to detect when an alarm event has taken place and have written software code to parse and handle each event.

The ability to receive secondary communications from the panel serves two purposes:

  • It allows the platform to to record from IP cameras associated with the alarm system

  • It allows the platform to act as a backup in case the Alarmnet-i platform is unavailable

Of course, it is also a viable option to ignore the built-in IP communicator completely and use the on-board Telco dialer and a Linksys ATA to communicate directly with your chosen Monitoring Center through the Linksys Alarm Monitoring Solution.

Either way, the Vista-21ip control panel is an excellent choice for use with the Virtual Monitoring Platform.
