Server Redundancy Service
IP Alarms offer a Server Redundancy Service to Alarm Monitoring Centers using our IP Alarm & Video Monitoring solutions. It allows Central Stations using our solutions to take advantage of our managed data center and use it as a backup facility in case disaster strikes and Internet connectivity is lost to the main server. Signals can be forwarded from the data center on to an alternative location via IP or cellular networks.
Server Redundancy via DNS
One of the most powerful features of Linksys VoIP devices is their ability to use DNS SRV records for redundancy. Part of our service is to register a dedicated domain name which is used solely for the purpose of the Linksys Alarm Monitoring solution. We setup the domain in such a way that there is a primary server and a secondary server registered in the DNS records. Linksys devices query the DNS records on a regular basis and store a list of servers. If the primary server becomes unavailable for any reason, the Linksys device will immediately switch to communicating with the secondary server. It will then query the primary server on a regular basis and switch back once it comes back online.
From a Central Station perspective, this provides the piece if mind that should their facility Internet connectivity be lost for any reason, all signals will be sent to our data center and forwarded to an alternative location using a choice of IP and cellular networks and a predetermined plan of action. Signals can even be queued on the data center server and actioned by operators through an emergency operator web interface.
