Router Setup

Receiving signals from supported IP products has special router/firewall requirements at the server end in order to allow responses to traverse NAT routers at the client end without the need for port forwarding.

To receive incoming signals in the Virtual Receiver, simply forward UDP packets on the required port(s) to the PC running the server software components.

Port Address Translation

The router/firewall needs to be setup in such a way that any outgoing packets do not have their source port mapped by PAT (port address translation). If the server software responds from a source port of 6000, then the packet needs to leave your network with the source port unmapped and appear that it came from YourServerIP:6000

It is often the case where simply port forwarding a router on a particular port prevents port mapping taking place, however, it is best to confirm this with your particular brand of router/firewall manufacturer or by carrying out your own tests.

Full instructions on port forwarding are provided in the IP Suite Server Setup Guide which is provided to Central Station I.T. staff.
