2G Sunset

July 2010 was the month we found out that the 2G GSM network is to be phased out. This news at a time when the security industry has just started turning to 2G cellular based monitoring solutions in response to the announcement in January 2010 by AT&T of the pending POTS sunset.

It is the job of industry leaders to educate Alarm Dealers of other technology options available to them.

3G on the Horizon

Although most in the alarm monitoring business may sit comfortably with promoting and selling solutions that are based on a dying technology, IP Alarms consider the expected 5 to 7 year sunset a little too close for comfort. All we can do is educate Alarm Dealers in the hope that they will inform their Customers of the pending sunset as we feel it is the system owner that should ultimately be allowed to make the decision.

IP Alarms believe that the use of 3G ready equipment like the Cisco WRP400 is the only way to future proof any investment in alarm transmission equipment.

The Linksys IP Alarm Monitoring Solution provides you with the most powerful tool available to upgrade systems that currently use regular POTS landlines for communicating with a Central Station.

The solution allows you to be very flexible in the way you approach potential Customers. Some Alarm Companies replace the Linksys stickers with a custom sticker and brand the device as their own. Others, that until now have only been able to provide monitoring service to subscribers in their local area, take full advantage of the nationwide "off the shelf" availability of the Linksys hardware and attract new Customers across the country to use their services on a "Monitoring Only" basis.
